The Rifle and the Hound in Ceylon

THE RIFLE AND THE HOUND IN CEYLON is Baker's first published work, and it is extremely rare.

Published in London by Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, all copies of the first edition have a title-page dated 1854, but I have seen different dates on their ads.

The earliest date I have seen is March, 1853

My copy, pictured below, has ads dated March 1854. I have another copy with ads dated September, 1854

The first editions also have 6 color lithographs not found in later editions

The first editions also have black and white illustrations.

The first American edition was not published until 1869, by J.B. Lippincott of Philadelphia.

I do not own the books pictured below, unless noted.

The rear board is separated from the spine and textblock, and the front board is basically separated. Spine cloth has been glued to textblock. This book should probably be recased / otherwise repaired

The color illustration titled "Stalking a herd" is missing, but if you wish, you can print off the image above and insert the resulting facsimile illustration in the book
