I believe this novel was first published in 1901 in London by Blackie and Son Limited, and in 1901 in New York by Charles Scribner's Sons.

I owned two copies of this novel, but neither had a year at the bottom of its title-page. 

One of the copies had ads at the end for Charles Scribner's Sons.

The second copy had ads at the end for Blackie and Sons.

I have seen copies with 1901 on their title-pages.
