EIGHT YEARS' WANDERINGS IN CEYLON is Baker's second published work.
Published in London by Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans, all copies of the first edition have a title-page dated 1855.
This work is extremely rare in original decorative cloth binding, of which there are at least three variants. The most common variant appears to be a red cloth with gilt illustrations to front board and spine. There are two variants with green cloth, one with gilt illustrations to front board and spine; and the other with no gilt illustrations to the cloth. One such plain green copy that I have seen also has advertisements at the end dated September 1855, as well as end papers with ads on them.
The first editions have 6 color lithographs not found in later editions

Neither my red or green copies of the first edition in original decorative cloth binding, nor my rebound copy have ads at the end. The first edition held by the University of California has ads at the end dated March 1856.
A bookseller once told me that his copy had ads dated September 1855. See 2 images of this copy below.
My plain copy in original green cloth binding, with 1855 on its title-page, was owned by Sir Samuel Baker himself, with his bookplate on the front paste-down.
My plain copy in original green cloth binding does have ads at the end, but dated much later: January 1867.

I also own a very nice copy rebound in quarter leather and marbled boards
5 additional beautiful color lithographs inside the book
My copy of the British first edition of EIGHT YEARS' WANDERINGS IN CEYLON is for sale at $599
