This book was a great favourite of Bryce's and he wrote it overlooking his garden in Burradoo in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, with Timmy his beloved dog at his feet and the four cats lounging across his desk! Many readers continue to make a pilgrimage to the Sydney suburb of Balmain where much of the story is set. Bryce Courtenay: Australia's best loved storyteller (1933-2012).
